Scary Good: What Fear Teaches Us About Living Fully
October is the season of ghosts, goblins, and things that go bump in the night. But sometimes the scariest things are not in haunted houses or horror movies. They are in our heads.
Fear of failing.
Fear of looking silly.
Fear of trying something new.
Fear of taking a risk.
Fear is like a speed bump. It slows us down and makes us think. And too often, it keeps us from chasing our dreams altogether.
Author Bronnie Ware, in her powerful book The Top Five Regrets of the Dying, shared that the biggest regret people have on their deathbeds is not the mistakes they made. It is not fear of failure. It is fear of what they did not do. The dreams they never chased. The lives they never lived.
If you have not failed, you have not taken enough risks. If you have not been uncomfortable, you aren’t living your life fully.
That is where the Life Is Too Short Guy principles matter most:
- Minutes Matter – Life does not wait. Every moment you hesitate is a moment gone forever. A moment you will never get back.
- Take a Chance and Get It Done Today – That idea you have been sitting on? That phone call you have been meaning to make? Do it. Fear fades once you act.
- Live Today… Don’t Wait for Tomorrow – Tomorrow is not guaranteed. If it matters, if it is meaningful, if it brings joy, do it now. If you aren’t sure, try it.
Fear is temporary. Regret is forever.
So here is my challenge to you: What dream have you been putting off? What risk have you been avoiding? What chance have you been afraid to take?
Chase it. Start it. Say yes today.
Your future self will thank you.
Regards,
Scott
